An option value analysis of the monarch butterfly forests

Abstract

This study compares the timber and amenity value of a particular
forest, and questions whether or not harvesting a larger area of a
special biosphere reserve of the monarch sanctuary is more or less
efficient from an economic perspective. Results show that, when
only use value is taken into account, amenity value will exceed the
critical amenity value, suggesting that larger exploitation should
not be allowed.
