The quality of seeds is an important element for producers and seed companies to make decisions, such as the type of seed and surface to be sown; this is why the physical and physiological quality tests are necessary to estimate their efficacy. In addition, the deterioration of the maize seed (Zea mays L.) is a cause of low physical, physiological and sanitary quality. In this study, carried out in the Seed Analysis Laboratory of Colegio de Postgraduados, Montecillo, Estado de México, in 2016, the damage caused by the effect of: accelerated ageing and stress from cold over the physical and physiological quality of the maize seeds was evaluated. The variables taken into account were: seedling length, coleoptile length, root length and dry matter weight. The different tests showed that genotype three, which corresponds to the 2015 cycle, was the one with best seed vigor and quality, and particularly the cold test indicated that the native variety of the region is apt for cold zones.
