Abstract

In this article, we consider the relationship between productive
and cultural aspects within a framework of rural development
with gender perspective. The backdrop is the community of
Hueyapan, Morelos, where the population speaks Nahuatl and
preserves its customs and traditions. The hypothesis was that
productive projects in which women participate are influenced
by gender roles in their success or failure. The methodology used
was based on a qualitative approach and the techniques were:
literature review, participative observation, semi-structured
interviews, life histories and workshops. The conclusions indicate
that traditional gender stereotypes (in regards to division of labor,
couple relationships and kinship relationships) influence women's
participation in projects. A successful experience in participation
positively influences the rearrangement of gender patterns, making
them more flexible for women and men.
